A legacy carved in stone
My name is Bhashitha Gamage, founder of Ceylon Sapphire – DE. I was born and raised in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka—the world-renowned City of Gems. With gemstone trading being part of my family heritage, I grew up with a deep appreciation for the beauty, craftsmanship, and traditions surrounding Ceylon gemstones. Today, after living in Freiburg, Germany for more than a decade, I am proud to bridge the rich gemstone traditions of my homeland with customers across Germany and Europe.
We carefully source our gemstones directly from traditional mines in Sri Lanka, following ethical and environmentally responsible practices. We work with trusted local miners who are fairly compensated, and each gemstone is expertly cut by skilled Sri Lankan craftsmen to reveal its natural beauty.
Our gemstones are accompanied by certificates from respected Sri Lankan gemological laboratories, verifying their authenticity and quality. Upon request, we can also arrange certification from GIA , SSEF , or DSEF. At Ceylon Sapphire – DE, we believe that buying a gemstone should be a personal and transparent experience. A science graduate from Kelaniya, Rasika took a different route, building a career as a software engineer that led him abroad. But gemstones were never far from home. Growing up in Nivitigala, one of Sri Lanka's main gem trading hubs, with a father in the gem business, the industry was part of his upbringing. Reconnecting with Saliya after university brought an opportunity to combine their strengths and build something meaningful together.

Also a science graduate from the University of Kelaniya, Saliya works as a chemistry teacher. Four years ago, curiosity sparked a new path, and he began teaching himself gemology. What started as a personal interest quickly evolved into expertise. Today, he travels to the gem markets of Ratnapura and Nivitigala to personally source sapphires, spinels, and chrysoberyl.
